Got back from Ohio from Dad’s funeral on the 21st. While I was gone, my hard drive decided to go waaaay south, and not come back. Oh how I hate setting up new hard drives.
The trip wasn’t too bad. Security and I had a few words, but they won, and I had to check a second bag for 25.00. All our flights were on time and smooth, except the return flight from Cleveland. It was an hour late for leaving due to a back up at the deicing area. They were having one of those nasty little lake effect snow squalls when we arrived from Columbus at 6:30 AM.
While we were in Ohio, on Monday, my Uncle Marty died. Went to that funeral on Wednesday. Then on the 13th, my step son’s Mom also died, and was another visit to a funeral home. Uncle Marty was dad’s brother-in-law. May they all rest in peace.
The weather left a lot to be desired though. We didn’t see the sun the whole 2 weeks we were there. Cold, wind, snow and rain. Oh well, typical Ohio winter weather I guess. We missed our blue skies, 50-60 degree temps. and NO humidity in Utah though.
The trip to Put-in-Bay was nice. Pat Chrysler was very helpful with our plans with dad, and did a fantastic job. I am very grateful to him and pleased with what he did. We were there only 2 days and not enough time to see everyone I wanted to.
I would also like to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving.

Wednesday, October 29, my brother, Kevin and I, lost our father, Gerald (Jerry) Hosko. Dad was born Nov. 6, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Florence and Martin Hosko. He is preceded in death by both parents, and 2 sisters, Thelma Hosko Ward, and Verlyn Hosko Okenka. He is survived by sister, Marlyn Hosko Weiss, of Oregon, Ohio, son Kevin of Port Clinton, Ohio, daughter Cindy Dages, and ex-wife of 50 yrs, Pat Hosko both of Beryl, Utah.
Dad’s life was spent on the Great Lakes from Port Huron to the Eastern extremes of Lake Erie as a commercial trap net fisherman. In 1964 he and mom opened a bait shop, boat ramp, gas dock, and fish cleaning business in Port Clinton at the Portage River Bridge. During this time he also went out and caught his own minnows to supply other bait dealers as well as his own bait business.
In 2004 Dad had a stroke that really slowed him down. On October 18th or 19th, he developed problems and Kevin, who has been taking care of him since the stroke, admitted him to the hospital.
Drs. told him he had an Aortic Aneurysm that was inoperable. They gave him 6 mos. After a short stay in the hospital, he was transfered to Edgewood Manner Nursing home and placed on Hospice. They told Kevin he would not be able to continue home care for him under the circumstances. 10 days after being admitted to Edgewood, he passed away.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday Nov 8th 2 PM at 3446 W. Lakeshore Drive, Port Clinton, Ohio. There will also be a Memorial Service at Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Date and time not firm at this time.
